United States - Lot of 4 One Dollar Notes, Series 1928A, 1934 and 1957 - Blue Seal Silver Certificates - Friedberg 1601, 1606 and 1619 A group of four One Dollar Silver Certificates issued by the United States, all bearing blue Treasury seals and blue serial numbers. The lot includes two Series 1928A notes with Woods-Mellon signatures, one Series 1934 note with Julian-Morgenthau signatures, and one Series 1957 note with Priest-Anderson signatures. Their corresponding Friedberg references are 1601, 1606 and 1619. Obverse: All four notes feature a central portrait of George Washington, together with the inscriptions "THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, " "ONE DOLLAR, " and a declaration concerning silver deposited in the United States Treasury. The two 1928A notes bear the Woods-Mellon signatures and a large "ONE" at the right; the 1934 note bears the Julian-Morgenthau signatures, with the blue seal to the right of the portrait and a large numeral 1 at the left; the 1957 note bears the Priest-Anderson signatures and the later, more familiar Silver Certificate design. Reverse: The three notes from Series 1928A and 1934 carry the green "Funny Back" design, with a large central "ONE" crossed by the inscription "ONE DOLLAR." The 1957 note bears the later reverse design, featuring a large central "ONE, " the pyramid and eye at the left, and the Great Seal eagle at the right. The two Series 1928A notes are classified as Friedberg 1601, the Series 1934 note as Friedberg 1606, and the Series 1957 note as Friedberg 1619. The notes show varying degrees of circulation and handling, including central folds, creases, staining, toning, wear and softened paper. The earlier notes display heavier circulation, while the 1957 note appears comparatively better preserved. A varied group illustrating the development of American Silver Certificate designs over several decades.
