United Arab Emirates - 100 Dirhams 1973 - First Currency Board Issue - AU A 100 Dirhams banknote from the first issue of the United Arab Emirates Currency Board. This was part of the newly established country's first national banknote series, introduced in 1973 shortly after the formation of the United Arab Emirates. The series marked the introduction of the dirham as the common currency of the Emirates, replacing the different currencies previously circulating in the region. Obverse: Arabic title of the United Arab Emirates Currency Board and the denomination "مائة درهم" ("One Hundred Dirhams"). The contemporary UAE emblem incorporates a dhow, palm tree, camel caravan and oil derrick, imagery reflecting maritime commerce, desert traditions and the oil industry. The serial number appears twice. Reverse: "UNITED ARAB EMIRATES CURRENCY BOARD" and "ONE HUNDRED DIRHAMS." At center is a coastal and harbor scene against a mountainous background, with traditional boats and a dhow under construction. The names of the Emirates appear in English along the borders. Condition: AU - About Uncirculated, showing only light signs of handling consistent with the condition visible in the images.
