A gold medallic coinage issue known as ARDEALUL NOSTRU, meaning "Transylvania Is Ours." It was issued to commemorate the return of Northern Transylvania to Romania in 1944, during the reign of King Michael I. Although catalogued as a 20 Lei issue, no denomination appears on the piece itself. Obverse: Three overlapping portraits facing left: Michael the Brave, ruler of Wallachia; King Ferdinand I; and King Michael I. The surrounding inscription reads ARDEALUL NOSTRU, with the dates 1601, 1918 and 1944 below, representing three historical milestones associated with the union of Transylvania and the Romanian lands. Designed by Haralambie Ionescu. Reverse: A crowned eagle’s head appears at the centre, accompanied by a cross and the initials of Romania. It is surrounded by eleven shields bearing the historical arms of Transylvanian counties. The inscription ROMANIA appears below. Designed by Ioana Bassarab-Starostescu and Ștefan Iordan.
