Palestine - Petah Tikva 2 Para / Piastre Token 1916 - PCGS VF 30 - Very Rare - Haffner CC-6
Palestine - Petah Tikva 2 Para / Piastre Token 1916 - PCGS VF 30 - Very Rare - Haffner CC-6 A rare tin token issued in the colony of Petah Tikva, most likely used as a substitute for circulating currency during the monetary shortages of World War I. The token bears the Hebrew letters "פ", "ת" and the numeral "2". These pieces were apparently intended for local circulation within Petah Tikva prior to the end of Ottoman rule in the Land of Israel. Petah Tikva tokens are considered extremely rare today. Most examples did not survive the harsh conditions and heavy circulation of the period, and only a very limited number of different specimens have appeared at auction over the past decade. Obverse: Hebrew letters "פ", "ת" and numeral "2". Reverse: no separate design, showing visible strike traces from the obverse. Made of tin.
