Palestine - Haifa - 20 Para 1900'-1920' Token - J. Pross - NGC VF DETAILS - Extremely Rare An extremely rare token issued in Haifa by J. Pross, likely the owner of a business or tavern operating in the city during the early 20th century, under late Ottoman rule. Such tokens were typically used as local means of payment within the issuing establishment - for purchases, drinks, or services – often serving to alleviate small-change shortages or as internal credit for regular customers. This token is among the rarest known from the Land of Israel, with only a few recorded specimens. Made of a grey metal (possibly zinc or lead), it bears the inscription “J. PROSS - HAIFA - SYRIA” on the obverse and the denomination “20” on the reverse. A historically significant and fascinating piece reflecting the early commercial life of Haifa in the early 20th century. Obverse: Inscription “J. PROSS” at top, “HAIFA” in center, and “SYRIA” below. Reverse: Large numeral “20” within a circular border.
