Palestine - 5 Mils 1927 - "Broadstruck" Minting Error - NGC MINT ERROR AU55 - KM#3
Palestine - 5 Mils 1927 - "Broadstruck" Minting Error - NGC MINT ERROR AU55 - KM#3 A 1927 Palestine 5 Mils coin from the British Mandate period, featuring a "Broadstruck" minting error, certified and graded by NGC as MINT ERROR AU55. A broadstruck minting error occurs when a coin is struck without proper restraint from the collar that normally contains the planchet during striking. As a result, the metal can spread beyond the coin's normal diameter, producing an irregularly expanded shape. On this example, the expanded planchet and abnormal rim are clearly visible while the principal struck details remain distinct. The Mil was a denomination of the Palestine pound during the British Mandate period. Mandatory Palestine coins carried inscriptions in Hebrew, English and Arabic, with the Hebrew name of the country incorporating the abbreviation "(א"י)", standing for "ארץ ישראל" ("Eretz Israel" - Land of Israel). Obverse: The name of the country appears in three languages: "פלשתינה (א"י)" ("Palestine - Eretz Israel") "PALESTINE" "فلسطين" ("Palestine") A central hole is surrounded by an olive-branch wreath, with the date 1927 below in Western and Arabic numerals. Reverse: The denomination 5 Mils appears in Hebrew, English and Arabic around the central hole, with the numeral 5 above. Metal: Copper-nickel. Standard Weight: 2.91 g. Standard Diameter: 20 mm. Edge: Plain. Mintage for 1927: 10,000,000. Catalog: KM#3. Certified by NGC as a minting error and graded AU55.
