Palestine - 1 Para / Piastre Token 1890-1900 - Templar Community, Haifa - G&B With Cog - Very Rare, Fewer Than 5 Known - PCGS XF Details An extremely rare token from the Templar community in Palestine, used as an internal payment token in a private store operated by members of the Templar community in Haifa. The Templers were German Protestants who settled in the Holy Land beginning in 1868, establishing colonies in Haifa, Jaffa, Jerusalem and Sarona. Due to the chronic shortage of small change during the Ottoman period, private trade tokens were produced for local commercial use. This token is attributed to B. Gerbuder Beck (G&B), a Templar business in Haifa. This specific variety featuring a cogwheel symbol is considered exceptionally rare, with fewer than five examples believed to exist today. Obverse: Denomination "1" within rounded rectangular border. Reverse: "G&B" inscription above cogwheel symbol within rounded rectangular border.
