Judaica / Zionism - USA - 1949 "100 Pruta" Chanukah Gelt Token, Rabbi Solomon Kluger School, New York, Bronze, 7.915 g Privately issued Chanukah Gelt token produced in the United States in 1949 by the Rabbi Solomon Kluger School of New York and distributed to the school's students as a Chanukah gift. Its design was deliberately modeled after the newly issued Israeli 100 Pruta coin, with an additional legend identifying it as Chanukah Gelt. It is a private token rather than an official coin of the State of Israel. Examples of this issue are also documented in previous Rimon Auctions sales. Obverse: Denomination: "100 פרוטה" (100 Pruta) within a stylized olive wreath, with the Hebrew date: "תש"ט" (5709) The design closely follows the denomination side of the contemporary Israeli 100 Pruta coin. Reverse: Palm tree at center with: "ישראל" (Israel) "إسرائيل" (Israel) "ISRAEL" and: "CHANUKAH GELT - R.S.K.S." The initials R.S.K.S. refer to Rabbi Solomon Kluger School, then located at 376 Houston Street, New York City.
