Judaica / Zionism - Memorial Medal for Sholem Aleichem - Bronze A Jewish / Zionist bronze memorial medal commemorating the famous Yiddish author and playwright Sholem Aleichem (1859-1916). Obverse: Left-facing portrait of Sholem Aleichem surrounded by olive branches. Along the rim appears the Yiddish inscription: "צום אנדענקען פון שלום עליכם" ("In memory of Sholem Aleichem"). The dates "1859-1916" appear below. Reverse: The reverse displays an incuse counter-relief impression of the portrait and wreath design, likely resulting from the casting or striking process. Two mounting holes are visible for attachment or display purposes. Sholem Aleichem, one of the greatest Yiddish writers of all time, became renowned for his literary works portraying Jewish life in Eastern Europe with humor, emotion, and humanity.
