Judaica / Zionism - Europe, Gmilut Chasadim Token “Moshe Amdan”, 16th-18th Century (approx.) Rare Obverse: Engraved Hebrew initials “G.Ch.” - almost certainly standing for Gmilut Chasadim (charity / benevolence fund). Surrounded by double engraved border lines. A Latin letter “W” above may indicate a workshop mark. Reverse: Engraved inscription: “Moshe Amdan” - possibly: The name of the official in charge of the Gmilut Chasadim fund, A Jewish shopkeeper issuing value tokens for food or basic goods, A donor whose charity fund distributed these tokens to the poor, Or a communal token used for structured charity distribution. Such tokens were common in Ashkenazi communities during the 16th-18th centuries: They functioned as charity vouchers, Food or fuel distribution tokens, Membership tokens of benevolent societies, Or even synagogue service tokens used for honors such as Aliyah rights. Hand engraving indicates local production, consistent with communal Jewish use. Brass / Yellow Bronze Weight: 6.96 g Diameter: 33 mm
