Judaica / Zionism - Egypt, "Year of Redemption" Medal, 5680 (1920) - White Meta Another variety of a rare medal produced in Egypt in 1920, following the British conquest of the Land of Israel, commemorating either the approval of the British Mandate for Palestine or the appointment of the first High Commissioner, Herbert Samuel. The inscription "Year of Redemption" reflects the Zionist spirit and national revival felt among the Jews of Egypt and the Diaspora, who viewed these events as the beginning of a renewed return to Zion and the strengthening of hope for a Jewish state in the Land of Israel. Obverse: Central inscription: "I am my beloved’s and his desire is toward me" Below: "Year of Redemption 5680" Above appears a small Star of David, surrounded by symbolic olive branch decorations along the border. Material: White metal (possibly silver or silvered nickel alloy).
