Judaica / Zionism - Argentina, Jewish Museum of Buenos Aires, ca. 1940s-1950s Three similar medals struck in bronze, gilded bronze, and brass, issued by the Jewish Museum of Buenos Aires (Museo Judío de Buenos Aires), operating under the auspices of the Congregación Israelita de la República Argentina. The obverse features the congregation’s emblem-a menorah and Torah scroll—surrounded by inscriptions in Spanish and Hebrew: “Congregación Israelita de la República Argentina - הקהילה הישראלית של רפובליקת ארגנטינה”, with the title “Museo Judío” (Jewish Museum) below. The reverses bear varying inscriptions: “Asociación Amigos del Museo Judío - Buenos Aires - Argentina” (= Friends Association of the Jewish Museum, Buenos Aires, Argentina), with engraved name space. Another version reads: “Museo Judío de Buenos Aires - Premio Barón Hirsch” (= Jewish Museum of Buenos Aires - Baron Hirsch Award). These medals were likely issued between the 1950s and 1970s to honor supporters of the Jewish Museum or to commemorate the Baron Hirsch Award given for contributions to Jewish cultural and communal life in Argentina.
