Israel - World Council of Synagogues, Official Award Medal - Mint Error, double strick on both sides - 1962 - Very Rare Solomon Schechter, head of the Jewish Theological Seminary, united in 1913 twenty-two conservative congregations, which came to be known as The United Synagogues of America. Over the years the union developed an extensive educational effort among youth and adults. It founded community centers and showed much initiative in many areas in order to raise the prestige of religion in the community. The World Council of Synagogues was organized in 1957. It aims to unite, under one auspice, all the conservative congregations to be found in some twenty-two countries. Obverse: Above, on the right, the State emblem. In the center an incuse rectangle bearing the Hebrew inscription: "Presented by the Office of the Prime Minister to the Participants in the First Convention of The World Council of Synagogues in Zion". Below, the date in Hebrew and English. Reverse: Within an incuse circle the symbol of The World Council -a stylized star of 18 beams, in between the Hebrew inscription "Come ye of the House of Jacob, let us go in the light of the Lord". Around the rim, the inscription in Hebrew and English: "World Council of Synagogues".
