Israel - Pair of “70 Years of the Jewish National Fund” Medals, 1971 - Silver 935 and Bronze, Silver Medal 47 g (Approx. 43.95 g Pure Silver, Approx. 1.41 Troy oz), 45 mm A pair of official Israeli medals issued in 1971, commemorating the 70th anniversary of the Jewish National Fund. The pair includes a 935 silver medal and a bronze medal, both sharing the same design. The Jewish National Fund, the central institution of the Zionist movement for the redemption of land in the Land of Israel, was founded in 1901. Its goals included purchasing land through public donations, preparing land for settlement, ensuring Hebrew labor, and preventing land speculation. Over the years, the JNF was active in land redemption, drainage projects, afforestation, road construction, and the preparation of land for settlement and agriculture. In 1960, the Israel Land Administration was established to manage the national land system, while land development, afforestation, drainage and road-building activities continued through the JNF’s Land Development Authority. Obverse: At the center appears a bulldozer clearing a path through rocks, symbolizing land development, road-building, settlement, and the transformation of barren land. Around the rim appears the inscription: "תרס"ב-תשל"ב קרן קיימת לישראל" "JEWISH NATIONAL FUND 1901-1971" Reverse: The reverse features a stylized depiction of afforestation and planting projects, with trees and rays of light creating a sense of growth and renewal. Around the rim appears the biblical phrase: "...כי לי הארץ" Taken from Leviticus 25:23, "For the land is Mine." The English inscription reads: "...FOR THE LAND IS MINE" "LEVITICUS XXV, 23" An attractive and important pair of official Israeli medals, commemorating the work of the Jewish National Fund in land redemption, afforestation, infrastructure development, and preparation of land for settlement. The combination of a silver and bronze medal of the same design adds collector interest, especially for collectors of official Israeli medals, Zionism, and settlement history.
