Israel - Pair of 1 Palestine Pound 1948 Banknotes - Anglo-Palestine Bank - Consecutive Serial Numbers, Prefix A - PMG 55 EPQ A pair of One Palestine Pound banknotes from the first official banknote series of the State of Israel, issued by the Anglo-Palestine Bank Limited. Both notes bear prefix A and consecutive serial numbers: A865345 and A865346. Each is graded PMG 55 About Uncirculated EPQ. The EPQ - Exceptional Paper Quality designation indicates that, in PMG's opinion, the paper retains its original quality. The notes were printed by the American Bank Note Company in New York before the establishment of the State, when neither the country's name nor the name of its currency had yet been determined. For this reason, the notes bear the name Anglo-Palestine Bank Limited and the denomination One Palestine Pound, without mentioning the State of Israel. Their design is based on elaborate security guilloches and rosettes characteristic of the printing company. Obverse Complex security guilloches in blue-green shades, with the denomination "לירה א"י אחת" at the center. The name "בנק אנגלו-פלשתינה בע"מ" appears above, with Hebrew and English inscriptions throughout the design. The serial numbers are printed in red on both sides, and the signatures of S. Hoofien and A. Barth appear below. Reverse Matching security guilloches, with the bank's name and denomination in Arabic and English. The symmetrical design incorporates elaborate frames and dense rosettes.
