Israel - Lot of 14 Israeli Coin Sets, 1960s-1980s, Proof-Like, Piedfort and UNC, in Original and Period Packaging
Israel - Lot of 14 Israeli Coin Sets, 1960s-1980s, Proof-Like, Piedfort and UNC, in Original and Period Packaging A lot of 14 Israeli coin sets and series representing several periods in the history of the currency of the State of Israel. Some photographs show the opposite sides of the same sets; after reviewing and counting the sets accordingly, the lot contains 14 sets in total. The lot spans the 1960s through the 1980s and includes coins from the Israeli Lira, Sheqel and New Sheqel periods. It contains official mint sets, collector sets and special issues in original and period packaging issued or distributed by the Israel Government Printer, the Israel Government Coins and Medals Corporation and other period distributors. The lot includes "Coins of Israel" sets, Jerusalem sets, Proof-Like issues, a Piedfort set, official anniversary mint sets and later sets from the Sheqel and New Sheqel periods. Original inscriptions visible on the packaging include: "COINS OF ISRAEL" "UNCIRCULATED" "PROOF-LIKE ISSUES" "1967 JERUSALEM SPECIMEN SET" "1968 JERUSALEM" "JERUSALEM SPECIMEN SET 1969" "COINS OF ISRAEL 1948-1969" "ISRAEL'S 31st ANNIVERSARY OFFICIAL MINT SET 1979" "ISRAEL'S 32nd ANNIVERSARY OFFICIAL MINT SET 1980" "ISRAEL OFFICIAL UNCIRCULATED SET 1984" "1987-5747 HANUKKA" The word "SPECIMEN" above is reproduced solely as part of the original wording printed on the period packaging and is not used here to classify the coins as trial or pattern issues. The earlier sets contain various combinations of the 1 Agora, 5 Agorot, 10 Agorot, 25 Agorot, 1/2 Lira and 1 Lira denominations. Their designs incorporate characteristic motifs of Israeli coinage, including the State emblem, seven-branched menorah, ancient musical instruments, plants and archaeological motifs. The lot also contains Proof-Like sets and an official Piedfort set in its original presentation packaging. The Piedfort set contains coins struck in a thicker and heavier format than the corresponding standard coins. The later sets document the transition from the Israeli Lira to the Sheqel and subsequently the New Sheqel and include various denominations and designs, including sets associated with Hanukkah and anniversaries of the State of Israel and the Bank of Israel. The packaging forms part of the lot and retains period inscriptions, emblems and graphic designs. Some holders and cards display visible storage wear, rubbing, creasing, staining and other age-related signs. The condition of the coins and packaging is as shown in the photographs. As this is a mixed lot of 14 sets containing numerous coin types and different years of issue, there is no single KM catalog number applicable to the entire lot, and therefore no catalog number is stated in the title.
