Israel - "Harel Palmach" Medal 1949 - War of Independence This medal was awarded to fighters of the Harel Brigade of the Palmach (mainly kibbutz members who served in the unit) as a memento of the places they defended during the War of Independence. The Harel Brigade played a central role in the battles to open the road to Jerusalem and in the fighting across the Judean Hills. The medal symbolizes bravery, camaraderie and the enduring legacy of the Palmach. Obverse: At the top, the inscription "Harel" and at the bottom "Palmach". In the center - the brigade emblem: a sword with three wheat stalks flanked by olive branches. Around the rim - a pattern of leaves and grape clusters. Reverse: Hebrew inscriptions listing the key sites where the brigade fought: "Caravans Mount Zion / Nachshon / Netiv Ha’elef / Herzl / Dani / Yevusi / Ha’har / Maccabee / Horev". At the bottom - a depiction of the Tower of David in Jerusalem. Metal: Cupro-nickel Weight: 9.106 g Diameter: 30 mm An impressive medal of deep historical and emotional value, commemorating the heroic deeds of the Harel Brigade fighters in Israel’s War of Independence.
