Israel - Group of 50 "Independence and Development Bond" Coins - Independence Day Issue, 1975 - Silver 800, total 1500g (1200g pure silver, 38.58 oz), 40 mm In September 1950, Prime Minister David Ben-Gurion gathered sixty leaders of American Jewry in Jerusalem to discuss the distribution of Israel Development Bonds, intended to raise capital for the rapid economic development of the young State of Israel. Less than a year later, the first public offering of the Israeli "Bonds" was launched in the United States. Funds raised during the first twenty-five years were invested in the development of new cities, roads, ports, water and electricity infrastructure, natural resources, and many other national projects. Obverse: At the center appears the denomination "25 Lirot" on the silver issue. Below appears the emblem of the State of Israel. Along the rim appears the word "Israel" in Hebrew, Arabic and Latin letters, together with the date "1974". Reverse: A stylized Star of David expanding into geometric forms around it. Along the rim appears the inscription "25 Years of Independence Bond" in Hebrew and English.
