Israel - "Ammunition Hill" Medal 1987 - Silver 935, 26g (approx. 24.3g pure silver, 0.78 oz), 37 mm Official state medal, issued in 1987. Jerusalem, the divided capital of Israel, was reunified during the Six-Day War. The battle for Jerusalem began on June 5, 1967, when Jordanian forces opened fire along the ceasefire lines and captured positions near Government House. Israeli Central Command under Major General Uzi Narkiss launched a counterattack, while IDF brigades fought fierce battles to seize the fortified Jordanian positions surrounding the city. The Paratroopers Brigade under Mordechai "Motta" Gur was tasked with capturing the Police Academy and Ammunition Hill stronghold. A brutal and costly battle took place there, during which 36 Israeli soldiers fell. By dawn, the position had been captured and the road to the Old City was opened. The battle of Ammunition Hill became one of the defining symbols of heroism during the Six-Day War and the reunification of Jerusalem. Obverse: The Ammunition Hill memorial site, together with the inscriptions in Hebrew and English: "Ammunition Hill 1967". Reverse: Map of reunified Jerusalem following the Six-Day War.
