The coin is certified by NGC as PF 68, an especially high proof grade. In 1954, as Israel’s economy began to stabilize, the need arose for a national bank to manage the country’s monetary system. The Bank of Israel was established under a special law approved by the Knesset on August 24, 1954. Its roles included regulating the currency system, supervising credit and banking, issuing currency, managing state loans, maintaining foreign currency and gold reserves, and representing Israel in international financial institutions. Obverse: At the center appears the emblem of the State of Israel, containing the word “Israel”. Above the emblem, in a semicircle, appears the Hebrew inscription: “חמישים לירות ישראליות” (Fifty Israeli Lirot) Below the emblem appears the word “Israel” in Arabic and Latin letters, together with the year: “תשכ"ה 1964” Reverse: At the upper right appears a pair of cornucopias, an ancient motif known from Hasmonean coinage. At the lower left appears the Hebrew inscription in four lines: “עשר שנים לבנק ישראל” (Ten Years of the Bank of Israel) An important and attractive Israeli gold coin of historical and economic significance, commemorating the first decade of the Bank of Israel. Certified NGC PF 68, adding strong collector appeal.
