Israel - 1 Pruta 1949 - With Pearl - KM# 9 - PCGS PL66 A variety of the first Israeli Pruta coin, commonly referred to by collectors as the “With Pearl” variety, due to the rounded raised dot appearing at the lower part of the oval on the denomination side, beneath the date. The present example is graded PL66 by PCGS - a particularly high Prooflike grade indicating deep reflective fields, exceptional luster and outstanding overall eye appeal. Examples of this type in such a high grade are very rarely encountered. The pruta entered circulation in 1949 following the replacement of the mil, becoming one of the first coin denominations issued by the young State of Israel. Obverse: Stylized anchor design with the inscription “Israel” in Hebrew and Arabic. Reverse: Denomination “1 Pruta” within a wreath of stylized olive branches. The first Israeli pruta coins were struck in 1949 as part of the first official coinage series issued by the State of Israel after independence.
