Israel - 1 New Sheqel 2022 - Moses and the Rock - Gold 999, 1.244g (0.04 oz pure gold), 13.92mm Only 10% Commission + VAT on this item. Mintage: 5,000 “Moses and the Rock” coin, dated 2022, the twenty-sixth issue in the “Biblical Art” series and legal tender issued by the Bank of Israel. The coin commemorates one of the most famous and moving biblical stories - the miracle of water flowing from the rock in the desert. During the Israelites’ wanderings in the wilderness, a miraculous well accompanied them through the merit of Miriam the prophetess. After her death, the well ceased to provide water, causing a severe crisis among the people. Fearing death from thirst, the Israelites complained to Moses and Aaron. God commanded Moses to speak to the rock so that it would bring forth water before the people, but Moses struck the rock twice with his staff. Water flowed forth, yet Moses and Aaron were punished and were told they would not lead the Israelites into the Promised Land. The story reflects the immense burden of leadership placed upon Moses and is considered one of the most dramatic and tragic episodes in the biblical account of the Exodus and the wilderness journey. The reverse depicts Moses holding his staff beside the rock from which streams of water emerge. On the left are Israelites gathering the water, with one figure filling a water jug from the miraculous spring. The scene captures the miracle in the desert and the people’s dependence on water and on Moses’ leadership. The obverse features the State emblem, the denomination, the name of Israel in Hebrew, English, and Arabic, the year of issue, and the mint mark. Around the rim appears the inscription “Moses and the Rock” in the three languages, while the upper section includes a decorative water jug motif.
