Israel - 1 New Sheqel 2020 - Ruth in Boaz’s Field - Gold 999, 1.244g (0.04 oz pure gold), 13.92mm Only 10% Commission + VAT on this item. Mintage: 103 “Ruth in Boaz’s Field” coin, dated 2020, the twenty-fourth issue in the “Biblical Art” series and legal tender issued by the Bank of Israel. The coin commemorates the moving biblical story of Ruth the Moabite - one of the Bible’s most beloved stories of kindness, loyalty, and devotion. The story begins during a famine in the Land of Israel, when Naomi’s family from Bethlehem moved to the fields of Moab. After the deaths of her husband and two sons, Naomi remained alone with her daughters-in-law, Ruth and Orpah. When Naomi decided to return to Bethlehem, Ruth chose to remain by her side, leaving her homeland and family behind, declaring: “For wherever you go, I will go…” Because of their poverty, Ruth and Naomi gathered leftover grain in the fields. Ruth arrived at the field of Boaz, a respected man of Bethlehem and a relative of Naomi. Boaz was deeply impressed by Ruth’s kindness and loyalty to her mother-in-law. Their relationship ultimately led to marriage and the establishment of the royal House of David, from which King David - and according to Jewish tradition, the future Messiah - would descend. The reverse depicts Ruth and Boaz standing in a barley field near Bethlehem, each holding a stalk of barley. In the background appear the hills of Judea, emphasizing the biblical landscape of the story. The obverse features the State emblem, the denomination, the name of Israel in Hebrew, English, and Arabic, the year of issue, and the mint mark. Around the rim appears the inscription “Ruth in Boaz’s Field” in Hebrew, English, and Arabic, while the center includes a decorative barley motif.
