Israel - 1 New Sheqel 2017 - Adam and Eve - Gold 999, 1.244g (0.04 oz pure gold), 13.92mm Only 10% Commission + VAT on this item. Mintage: 207 “Adam and Eve” coin, dated 2017, the twenty-first issue in the “Biblical Art” series and legal tender issued by the Bank of Israel. The coin is dedicated to the story of Creation and the Garden of Eden, one of the most influential and recognizable narratives in the Bible and human culture. The story of Adam and Eve tells of the creation of the first man and woman, their life in the Garden of Eden, the temptation of the serpent, the eating of the forbidden fruit, and their expulsion from paradise. It is one of the foundational stories of Western civilization and symbolizes innocence, free will, temptation, and the consequences of human actions. Designing this miniature gold coin posed a unique artistic challenge. The designer chose to conceal the figures of Adam and Eve within the shape of a fig leaf, a symbol traditionally associated with the biblical story. The fig leaf creates a refined and sophisticated composition, combining biblical symbolism with modern minimalist design. The obverse features the State emblem, the denomination, the name of Israel in Hebrew, English, and Arabic, the year of issue, and the mint mark. Around the rim appears the inscription “Adam and Eve” in Hebrew, English, and Arabic, while beneath the denomination are two small fig leaves. The reverse depicts a large fig leaf within which the silhouettes of Adam and Eve are subtly integrated in an elegant symbolic design.
