Israel - 1 New Sheqel 2008 - The Wolf Shall Dwell with the Lamb - Gold 999, 1.244g (0.04 oz pure gold), 13.92mm Only 10% Commission + VAT on this item. Mintage: 3,302 “The Wolf Shall Dwell with the Lamb” coin, dated 2008, the twelfth issue in the “Biblical Art” series issued by the Bank of Israel. The coin is based on the prophetic vision of Isaiah describing an ideal world of peace, harmony and brotherhood among humanity and all living creatures. The famous verse “And the wolf shall dwell with the lamb” symbolizes the end of violence and hatred and the coming of an era of peace and tranquility. The coin received second prize (Silver Medal) at the international Vicenza Numismatica coin design competition held in Italy. The obverse features the denomination in Hebrew and English, the State emblem, the name of Israel in three languages and the year of issue. A dove carrying an olive branch appears beside the inscription. On the miniature gold coin, the arrangement of the inscription differs and the biblical reference is omitted. The reverse depicts a lamb peacefully curled in the embrace of a wolf, symbolizing harmony and peace. Beside them appear a grapevine, a fig tree and a dove carrying an olive branch, inspired by the biblical phrase “every man under his vine and under his fig tree.”
