Israel - 1 and 2 Sheqalim 2005 - The Golden Years - Silver 925, 43.2g (approx. 39.96g pure silver, 1.28 oz) - Proof and Mint A pair of official Bank of Israel silver coins issued for Israel's 57th Independence Day in 2005. The Golden Years coin honours the contribution of senior citizens to society, the economy and culture, emphasizing the experience, creativity and vitality accumulated throughout life. Following the previous Independence Day coin dedicated to children, this issue presents the golden years as the culmination of lifelong personal growth. The flourishing tree with strong roots, branches and fruit symbolizes strength, continuity and creativity. Obverse: The denomination, either 1 New Sheqel or 2 New Sheqalim, appears in Hebrew and English, together with the State Emblem and the name Israel in Hebrew, English and Arabic. The inscriptions include יום העצמאות התשס"ה, INDEPENDENCE DAY and 2005. A tree branch extends inward from the left edge. Reverse: A mature olive tree with deeply planted roots, spreading branches and abundant leaves. The design alludes to the biblical verse describing continued fruitfulness in old age and symbolizes the strength, productivity and creativity of senior citizens. The inscription גיל הזהב appears beside the tree, with THE GOLDEN YEARS in English and Arabic above. The coins were designed by Gideon Sagi and struck by the Royal Dutch Mint.
