Great Britain - Sterling Silver Ingot “Edward the Confessor - The Building of the Original Westminster Abbey” - 1,000 Years of British Monarchy Series - John Pinches, .925 Silver, Approximately 66 g (Approximately 61.05 g Net Silver, 1.96 Troy Ounces) A sterling silver ingot from the 1,000 Years of British Monarchy series, issued by John Pinches and dedicated to a millennium of British royal history. The series comprises 50 ingots, each depicting a monarch or a significant event in the history of the British monarchy. The ingot commemorates Edward the Confessor, King of England from 1042 to 1066, and the rebuilding of the original Westminster Abbey. Edward commissioned a large Romanesque church, consecrated in 1065, which became one of England’s most important religious buildings. Although it was later largely replaced by the present Gothic structure, the abbey remains closely associated with the coronation of English and British monarchs. Obverse: A crowned portrait of King Edward the Confessor appears within an oval frame. Beside it is a scene depicting the construction of the original Westminster Abbey, with builders, scaffolding, ladders, lifting equipment, columns and stone walls in various stages of completion. Reverse: The following inscriptions appear: 1042-1066 EDWARD THE CONFESSOR THE BUILDING OF THE ORIGINAL WESTMINSTER ABBEY Manufacturer: John Pinches. Metal: .925 sterling silver. Gross weight: Approximately 66 g. Net silver weight: Approximately 61.05 g, equivalent to approximately 1.96 troy ounces.
