The wedding ceremony took place on 29 July 1981 at St Paul's Cathedral in London. The coin has a face value of 25 pence, although the denomination is not explicitly stated on the coin. The silver version was struck in Proof quality from .925 sterling silver. According to the leaflet, the silver Proof issue was limited to a maximum of 250,000 coins. The Royal Mint lists the coin as a 1981 25 pence issue commemorating the royal wedding. The obverse features the portrait of Queen Elizabeth II, designed by Arnold Machin, accompanied by the inscription: ELIZABETH II D G REG F D (Elizabeth II, by the Grace of God, Queen and Defender of the Faith) The reverse features the portraits of Prince Charles and Lady Diana Spencer, designed by Philip Nathan, accompanied by the inscription: HRH THE PRINCE OF WALES AND LADY DIANA SPENCER (His Royal Highness the Prince of Wales and Lady Diana Spencer) 1981 (Year of issue)
