The coin features Britannia, the traditional female personification of Britain, together with several advanced security features integrated into the design. This version bears the portrait of Queen Elizabeth II. A separate 2023 version featuring the portrait of King Charles III was also issued. The obverse features the portrait of Queen Elizabeth II, designed by Jody Clark, accompanied by the inscription: ELIZABETH II D G REG F D 2 POUNDS (Elizabeth II, by the Grace of God, Queen and Defender of the Faith, 2 pounds) The reverse depicts Britannia holding a trident and a shield bearing the Union flag, designed by Philip Nathan.
